I find it annoying going to 3 to see page 6 and then page 6 to see page 9 etc.

Ah ok. There's no easy way to pull this off, so I'm going to mark this as reviewed/resolved for now. But I'll make a mental note to keep it in mind if and when we revisit how pagination works.
